Survey Work
Project contractors for the Commonwealth Wind project will be conducting a variety of survey work beginning June 13, 2023, in Barnstable which will not have any impacts to traffic. This survey work will support the further preparation of permitting filings for the project.
Field Survey Work
Project contractors will be conducting field survey work beginning June 13, 2023. This work will take place during daytime hours on weekdays for the next few weeks. This work will entail contractors using handheld equipment off of public roadways, on sidewalks, sides of the road, etc. There will be no digging or road closures or traffic impacts involved with this field survey work.
This work will take place on sections of the following public roadways:
East Bay Road, Osterville
Main Street, Osterville
Osterville West Barnstable Road, Osterville (between Main Street and Old Falmouth Road)
Old Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills (between Osterville West Barnstable Road to Old Stage Rd/Race Lane)
Old Stage Road, Marstons Mills (between Race Lane and Oak Street)
Oak Street, West Barnstable (between Old Stage Road and Service Road)
Ground Penetrating Radar Survey Work
Project contractors will be conducting Ground Penetrating Radar survey work (GPR) beginning the overnight hours of June 14, 2023 into June 15, 2023. This work will take place during overnight hours only and is anticipated to be completed in a few weeks. This work will entail a vehicle with a cargo rack driving slowly (15-20 mph) along several public roadways followed by a Barnstable police detail behind the vehicle. There will be no digging or road closures or traffic impacts involved with this survey work.
This work will take place on sections of the following public roadways:

Main Street, Osterville
Osterville West Barnstable Road, Osterville (between Main Street and Old Falmouth Road)
Old Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills (between Osterville West Barnstable Road to Old Stage Rd/Race Lane)
Old Stage Road, Marstons Mills (between Race Lane and Oak Street)
Oak Street, West Barnstable (between Old Stage Road and Service Road)
Service Road, West Barnstable
The information from this survey work will help our project team design plans for offshore wind duct bank installation under roadways, by mapping the exact locations of the current COMM water mains and National Grid gas lines.
